Export to the USA

Exporting thermal treated products, acid or non acid, to the United States is regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration- vegetable and seafood based products) and by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture – for all meat based products).

Exporting thermal treated products, acid or non acid, to the United States is regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration- vegetable and seafood based products) and by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture – for all meat based products).

These two organizations control whether the technical processes of the food products exported in the US conform to American rules, at the same time they are verifying that the exporting companies are correctly relying on administration requirements.
The CTCPA, with its expertise in thermal treatments, thanks to its work as a technical center, works on numerous dossiers per year with French companies.  Its goal is to bring these companies technical help in order to validate processes according to the requirements recommended by American authorities.

With products that fall under the control of the FDA, the technical dossier must contain the following elements :

  • validation of the homogeny of the temperature and the intensity of the thermal treatment in the autoclaves used in the export,
  • determination of the sterilization/pasteurization values acquired by the products during their treatment, for both continuous processes (exchangers) and discontinuous processes (autoclaves).

The CTCPA assists your company directly on-site, with its own range of measurement certified equipment. Realizing all the required experiments, the CTCPA also writes the technical file and the required export forms.

With products falling under the control of the USDA, an experimental validation of the thermal treatment is demanded, and for France it is placed under the responsibility of the DDPP and the DGAL.

For meat-based products treated thermally (canned goods, but also pasteurized then refrigerated products), the DGAL has made the CTCPA its exclusive partner in charge of the measurement and validation of thermal treatments.
Finally, the CTCPA also proposes its support during the inspections by the FDA or USDA in the French factories.
